Our Church

Catholic Masses in Shepparton were first held in settlers’ homes and later in Foresters’ Hall in Welsford Street.

The first St Brendan’s Church was built to the east (later the site of Sacred Heart College) in 1879; extended in 1883, it was burnt out on 29 January 1900.

This church, designed by local architect J A K Clarke and built by Melbourne builder Charles Luff at a cost of £1,929, was opened on 11 November 1900.

In 1923-24 major extension and remodelling works costing around £6,500 were completed by J Bellamy, overseen by architect Augustus Fritsch.

Subsequent alterations to the Church included reconstruction of the front wall incorporating the rose window (1949-50).

Significant refurbishment was made in the Centenary Year 2000.

Our Presbytery

Erected in 1909 and designed by notable Melbourne ecclesiastical architects Kempson and Conolly, this replaced an earlier presbytery. A stable was also erected.
