BAPTISM

BAPTISM

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20

Thank you for inquiring about the Sacrament of Baptism in St John’s Parish Trafalgar.

Baptism is the first Sacrament of Initiation into the faith community.

To assist you in understanding the Sacrament and its significance, a member of the Baptism team will contact you and arrange a time and place to meet. You will then participate in a Baptism Preparation Session and be provided with any assistance you may need in the lead up to your child receiving this Sacrament. You will also be given a booking form which must be handed into the Parish Office prior to the Baptism.

Since the role of the godparents in the Sacrament of Baptism is to be a model and guide of Catholic faith and practice, there must be at least one Catholic godparent. Non- Catholic Christians can function as godparents alongside the Catholic godparent.

All godparents should be aged sixteen or above.

As a minimum requirement for Baptism at St John’s, you will be asked to attend the preparation session and to participate in the Rite of Welcome Mass at a date prior to the Baptism Day. These dates to be in agreeance with the Parish priest.

An envelope is available for families to make an offering to the Parish.

Our Parish of St John’s would like to stay connected with you after your Baptism Day, so your child will receive a birthday card for four years from the Parish containing a simple activity they may like to complete with you. On their fourth birthday they will receive a small colourful prayer book they can draw and write in as they then prepare for school life to follow.

All Baptisms must be booked through the Parish Office.
